I'm not saying we need to believe every word of this, but I am saying it fits neatly into my (long-winded) read on Bill Murray & gender cultural politics. I'm personally inclined to believe his wife, but what do I know?

Wow and wow. I completely agree with your analysis (which was the epitome of detailed and systematic). I think it's also interesting that what you're describing is a genre of these movies that has come out as "big man's mid-life crisis" which I thought exactly was the case with Steve Martin's "Shopgirl." It was hugely critically acclaimed but told a story so similar to the storylines you outlined here that it could be plagiarism and it was absolutely not friendly to women (or men who don't behave like total selfish assholes). I'll think for the rest of the day about other movies that fit this bill and I'm pretty sure I'll have a good list when I'm done.
