What has been your favorite mistake?
Submitted by Runnergirl
Perhaps somehow putting the phone number for McGee's Pest Control in Kansas on our wedding info cards instead of the number for the Amway Grand Hotel, where we had room blocks for our guests. Oops. How the hell did I screw that up? haha No, seriously. Where did I get that number???
What were you afraid of when you were younger that seems silly to you now?

Dogs! I was bitten in the face by a neighbor's dog when I was young, and had to go to the hospital and everything. Combined with the running I'd do out in the country where dogs would regularly charge at me, and I feared and disliked dogs really until college.
Then I didn't run like that anymore, my family got a dog, and I just had a lot more contact with them. Now I don't fear dogs at all --I love them! They're so funny! We saw the silliest bulldog this weekend at our yard sale. He looked kinda like this and moved SO SLOWLY.
Do you have any crazy superstitions?
There's a certain pair of underwear I no longer wear to Cubs games. So far, so good.
July is national ice cream month! What's your favorite flavor?

Mackinac Island Fudge. In a waffle cone. It's chewy, salty, not too chocolaty. When that's not available, some kind of Snickers-type mash-up. The similarities are strikingly similar: vanilla base, chunks of stuff mixed in: chewy, salty, not too rich.
It is my goal to have one good ice cream cone sometime this summer. (We don't buy or eat ice cream on a regular basis here.) I have a feeling that if I mention it to my dad, perhaps even next weekend when we're home, he will help me make it happen.
What have you been putting off all weekend?
Admitting that school starts again tomorrow. Thus the long-distance get-away (see below), which was a blast, by the way. Photos soon!
What's your favorite time of day and why?
Morning.
I've been a morning person for over five years now, and I can't foresee ever going back. I love being outside in the morning. I love Lake Michigan in the morning. I love winter mornings. I love passing the same people at the same time in the same place, as we all trod off to our days. I love grocery stores in the morning. I love working out in the morning. And I love writing in the morning. I love morning commutes, and I love mornings where I don't ever leave the house but still get a lot done.
The only downside? I'm pretty much sh*t for brains after about 7pm. And as many of my friends can attest, pretty much a ragdoll by 10pm. But I still think it's worth it. I love mornings.
If you had to go on a two-week vacation with any celebrity, who would you pick as your traveling companion and where would you go?
It would have to be SE Asia with Anthony Bourdain. Starting in Malaysia.
If you had to write your autobiography in 6 words, what would you write?

What are some of the best(and worst) things about summer?
Submitted by L33tchica.
Best
- Being outside
- Leaves, flowers, bugs, grass, birds... life!
- People look at each other on the sidewalk
- Cooking and eating and drinking outside (this may be #1 for me)
- Easier biking
- Local produce
- Beaches
- A change from school schedules
- Humidity
- Spiders
- Often have to go a month or two without pay (like NOW)
- Never as "breaky" as I want or need
- Higher electric bill (for us, using window AC unit in the bedroom every night)
- Cooking can be very hot
- The occasional anomie, that you hate when it's there and long for when it's not
- Crowded lakefront path
What's on your "To-Do" list today? What are you most looking forward to and what are you most dreading?
I have an interview for my research this morning. That'll be fine.
Then I have to keep working on this grant I'm trying to get. I'm really sick of the whole thing and wonder if I even have a shot at this money, but I've already put in so much time, and so many people have helped me, I need to plod through and do my very best for them if not for myself. The ironic thing is that I'm hoping to get the grant so I can hire someone to transcribe my interviews --the very thing writing this grant is preventing me from doing. All the more reason I need it! It's so circular.
I need to pick up my bike from the bike shop -- it's in for a tune-up and I'm really excited to get it back.
We have a long and time-consuming list of wedding stuff to do. But I don't think any of that will happen today. Maybe a little tonight, once we're more into relaxation mode. We'll see.
I need to work out for 60 minutes. But I could do 30 and then do 60 one day this weekend. So we'll see. Just gotta work out at some point. Unless I do two 60-minute sections on back-to-back days, which I try to avoid. 120 minutes to do in 3 days. I'll put it together somehow.
I NEED to be doing some reading for my research and obviously transcribing, but again, I don't think that will happen today.
What I need is another month to get everything done this summer (research, teaching, conference stuff, getting ready for the wedding). Simultaneously, I need a vacation in a major way. I know I'm not going to get either of those things.
Welcome to my world? Ugh. Off I go.
